Loving Workplace Principles Project
Describing the Guiding Principles of a Loving Workplace to Inspire and Guide Teams

The Purpose of the Principles Project:
Make Loving Workplace Principles and learning assets available to inspire teams and organizations around the world to love.
When a team is ready to cultivate more loving practices, what do they need to know to begin?
This project will describe the core principles of a Loving Workplace and make resources, tools, and learning experiences available to share with the world.
A team of experts from the Center’s community has formed to take on this challenge. These principles derive from our deep experiences in loving workplaces and as a community working together. These principles provide the foundation for all future work for the Center and for a team or organization seeking to build a more loving way of working.
Join us by supporting this important project to establish a base and create momentum in the Loving Workplace movement.
Project Deliverables
By November 14, 2025, this project team will deliver:
A set of eight white papers describing each of our Loving Workplace Principles and the stages of a Loving Workplace, in a way that is accessible, inspiring, and actionable.
Facilitated events, which are opportunities for anyone interested in love in the workplace to connect and engage with each other and these Principles, contributing and gaining insights.
A product roadmap for the development of resources, tools, and learning experiences for effectively sharing Loving Workplace Principles with the world.
Here are the Loving Workplace Principles:
Activate Care
Love is an active commitment to care for, support, and nurture every individual and the collective system. A loving workplace intentionally embodies care for the whole and its parts. We seek to operate with care first when confronted with challenges.
Promote Responsibility
Leaders and colleagues all have needs and responsibilities in building and maintaining workplace culture. In a loving workplace, everyone takes ownership of the system's well-being and relational landscape while acknowledging positionality and power. We seek a deeper collective understanding of interdependence and an active response to emerging needs.
Respect Complexity
Love makes space for everyone as inherently unique and worthy. A loving workplace recognizes contradictions, challenges, and conflicts as natural and necessary for growth and transformation. We seek to value all perspectives as we navigate a complex world.
Get Real
We prioritize honest vulnerability and the pursuit of truth over comfort. A loving workplace acknowledges the human challenges we navigate while engaged at work. We seek to embrace discomfort to deepen our self-awareness of what we carry into the workplace, as we face harm, own our impacts, and do the work to understand each other’s context so we can grow and heal.
Build Relational Trust
Trust is foundational. A loving workplace creates and nurtures trust, maintains it, and remains open to rebuilding it, even in moments of fear or uncertainty. We seek a greater understanding of our relationship with trust and reflect on its potential and limits for our work.
Cultivate Joy
Joy is a vital energy source that fuels innovation, creativity, resilience, and meaningful engagement. A loving workplace acknowledges that human potential is unlocked by creating conditions where joy and delight are nourished. We seek to intentionally cultivate joy through community connection in the workplace.
Pursue Learning & Renewal
Sustaining love requires continuous reflection, adaptation, and regeneration. A loving workplace is a learning environment where mistakes become opportunities, curiosity is valued, and renewal is an ongoing individual and collective process. We seek to learn together, to both fail and succeed together.
The Stages of a Loving Workplace Journey
Stage 1: Build awareness to mitigate the harm caused in fear-based workplace cultures.
Stage 2: Inspire commitment to transformation with a vision of what becomes possible for individuals, teams, organizations, and society when love and human relationships are put at the center of our workplaces.
Stage 3: Embark on the journey to love-based empowerment with practical, specific, actionable steps that begin to deliver positive results for everyone involved as difference is embraced and game-changing innovation emerges.
Stage 4: Embody loving workplace principles with practices, norms, policies, and systems that foster belonging, unleash human potential, nurture resilience, and sustained growth toward more than we imagined was possible.
